## What is the best app for physiotherapists to send home exercise programs?

If you are a licensed physiotherapist treating patients, a dedicated home exercise program (HEP) tool such as Physitrack or MedBridge is usually the better choice: they are built around clinical exercise libraries, patient apps and clinic workflows. A coaching app such as Trainera fits better once the work turns from treatment into ongoing training, for example post-rehab strength work, return-to-training after discharge, or a physio who also sells online coaching.

Prices and library sizes below come from each vendor's own pages, checked October 2026, with the source linked next to each figure.

## This page is software guidance, not medical advice

Nothing here tells you how to treat a patient or which exercises suit a condition; that stays with the treating clinician.

The World Health Organization defines rehabilitation as "a set of interventions designed to optimize functioning and reduce disability in individuals with health conditions in interaction with their environment", and notes it can be delivered in community settings such as a person's home ([WHO rehabilitation fact sheet](https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/rehabilitation)). Software only delivers the program. If you are a personal trainer working with a client who is in rehab, follow the restrictions their physio or doctor sets and refer back when something changes. Our piece on [biomechanics and injury prevention](/blogs/injury-prevention-biomechanics-training) covers the training side, not treatment.

## Dedicated HEP tools: prices and libraries, checked October 2026

The main HEP tools publish prices per practitioner or per seat, not per patient.

| Tool | Published price | Library | Patient app and notes |
| ----------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | ---------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Physitrack | $18.99 per practitioner per month, or $227.88 per practitioner per year; 20+ practitioners on a custom quote ([physitrack.com](https://www.physitrack.com/physitrack-pricing)) | "A library of 18000+ exercises" | Free patient app (PhysiApp); "complimentary 2-week trial"; no per-patient fee mentioned |
| MedBridge | $329 per seat per year on business plans ([medbridge.com](https://www.medbridge.com/pricing/business)) | "8,000+ exercises across 20 specialties" | Medbridge GO patient app. Care Essentials includes 100 HEP episodes per seat per year, pooled, then $1.50 per episode; Care Elite has unlimited HEP episodes and RTM or Pathways episodes at $10 each |
| Exercise Pro Live | 1 user: $134 a year ($99 for the first year) or $16.99 a month; 2-5 users $89 a year each ([exerciseprolive.com](https://www.exerciseprolive.com/hep-software-pricing)) | "7,000+ HD exercise videos" | Unlimited patients, apps for iOS and Android, 130+ languages, RTM included, free two-week trial |
| PT Wired | Price on request; the site says "PT Wired is now Prompt Engage" ([ptwired.com](https://www.ptwired.com/)) | not published | Ask the vendor directly |

A few details to read carefully. Physitrack's US page shows US dollars, while its ROI calculator uses pounds, so UK pricing differs from the US view. MedBridge describes small businesses as 2+ seats and prices 50+ seats through sales. Exercise Pro Live's $99 is an introductory first-year price; the standard yearly price is $134.

## HEP tool or coaching app: which one fits your work

Pick by what happens with the person after they leave your room: treatment, or training.

| Your situation | Better fit | Why |
| ------------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Clinic treating post-operative or acute patients | Dedicated HEP tool | Clinical libraries organized by specialty, patient apps built for rehab dosing |
| US clinic that bills remote therapeutic monitoring (RTM) | HEP tool with RTM | Exercise Pro Live includes RTM; MedBridge prices RTM episodes on Care Elite |
| You need clinical notes, intake records and telehealth in one place | Practice software (EHR) | A coaching app is not a clinical record system |
| Patient discharged, wants to keep training with you | Coaching app | Progressive training plans, check-ins, habits and payments for an ongoing service |
| Physio or trainer selling paid online strength or mobility coaching | Coaching app | Subscriptions, client limits by plan, branded presence, group sessions |
| Studio with physios and trainers under one roof | Often both | Clinicians keep the HEP tool for treatment; trainers run training in a coaching app |

Many practitioners run both: the HEP tool while someone is a patient, and a coaching app once they become a training client. That split also keeps clinical records out of your sales and coaching tools.

## What a home exercise program app needs to do well

Whichever tool you choose, a home program only works if the person can follow it alone and you can see whether they did.

* **Clear video demos** with a short written cue. A demo the person cannot match at home creates a message or, worse, a skipped exercise.
* **Dosage fields** for sets, reps, hold time and how often per day or week, so the plan reads the same way you would say it.
* **Your own exercises** with your own video for drills you teach in a specific way.
* **Logging and feedback**, so the person marks what they did and can tell you how it felt.
* **Reminders** that respect the person's evenings and do not flood them.
* **The person's language.** Exercise Pro Live lists 130+ languages; Trainera's app runs in 26.
* **Data handling you have checked.** In the US, covered entities have obligations under HIPAA ([hhs.gov/hipaa](https://www.hhs.gov/hipaa/index.html)). Check the vendor's terms against your own obligations before you put patient information into any app.

What to watch once the program is running:

| What to track | Why it matters | How it usually looks in an app |
| ---------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------ | -------------------------------------- |
| Sessions done vs sessions planned | Shows adherence before the next appointment, not after | Completed workouts in the client's log |
| How it felt (difficulty, any symptom question the clinician set) | Tells the clinician or coach when to adjust | A check-in or questionnaire answer |
| Load, reps or hold time over weeks | Shows progress the person can see too | Exercise history and records |
| Daily habits such as steps or a short mobility routine | Small daily items are the easiest to skip | Habit tracking or wearable data |

## Messages that help people actually do their home program

Short, specific messages tied to the plan work better than general encouragement.

| Situation | What to send |
| -------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| First day of a new program | "Your plan is in the app. Watch each video once before you start, then do today's three exercises. Tell me tonight which one felt hardest." |
| Two sessions missed | "I see the last two sessions are open. What got in the way? If time is the problem, we can cut it to the first two exercises this week." |
| Something feels wrong | "Stop that exercise and use the rule your physio gave you. Send me a short video and I will pass it on before your next session." |
| Hand-over from rehab to training | "Your physio has cleared you to train. Your first strength block starts Monday and keeps their two home drills in the warm-up." |

## Where Trainera fits, and where it does not

Trainera is coaching software, so it fits the training side: post-rehab strength, return-to-training and paid ongoing coaching, not clinical treatment or insurance billing.

What you get for that work:

* **Exercise library:** more than 1,800 exercises with video, and exercises show a muscle map. You can add your own exercises with your own demo video; how many depends on your plan. See how it compares in our guide to [trainer apps with exercise video libraries](/blogs/trainer-app-with-exercise-video-library).
* **Program and follow-up:** training and nutrition plans, check-ins, habits, chat, and questionnaires (intake forms) on every plan including Free.
* **Wearables:** clients can connect Apple Health (iPhone app), Health Connect (Android app), Fitbit or Polar; steps, heart rate, sleep, calories and workouts show up for the client and their coach. The trainer sees this data from Starter up.
* **Training without signal:** in the mobile app, clients of a Pro, Business or Enterprise trainer can download plans and train offline; workouts logged offline sync when the phone is back online, for up to 7 days.
* **Reminders:** Automations on Starter (1), Pro (3), Business (10) and Enterprise (unlimited), with quiet hours from 21:00 to 08:00 by default.
* **Group work:** on Pro, Business and Enterprise you can schedule weekly live sessions on YouTube with join reminders and attendance, which suits a weekly mobility or back-care class. More in [live group sessions for online coaching](/blogs/live-group-sessions-online-coaching-software).

Trainer plans in US dollars, flat per plan rather than per client: Free $0 for up to 3 clients, Starter $19.99 for 10, Pro $49.99 for 30, Business $99 for 75, Enterprise on request. Prices differ by country; check [trainera.fit/pricing](/pricing).

Where Trainera is the wrong tool: it is not a clinical record system, it is not built for RTM billing, and its library is made for training rather than organized by clinical specialty like the 18,000+ exercises Physitrack publishes. Trainera also makes no compliance or certification claims, so if you are a covered entity or work under health-data rules, check your own obligations before putting patient information in it. For treatment, use a dedicated HEP tool.

## Other options if you want one system for practice and coaching

Some practitioners want scheduling, notes and programs in a single practice tool instead of a coaching app.

Practice Better calls itself an "All-In-One EHR" and lists personal trainers among the practitioners it serves; Starter costs $35 a month for 10 clients and Professional $69 a month for 300 clients on monthly billing ([practicebetter.io/pricing](https://practicebetter.io/pricing), checked October 2026). It lists HIPAA, PIPEDA and GDPR compliance as a feature, telehealth video and programs. Harbiz describes itself as an app for fitness professionals including "physiotherapists", with plans from €19 a month for up to 5 clients ([harbiz.io/en/pricing](https://www.harbiz.io/en/pricing), checked October 2026). Compare more options in [Practice Better alternatives](/blogs/practice-better-alternatives-nutrition-coaches).

## A one-week plan to choose your setup

Use one week of trials to decide whether you need a clinical tool, a coaching app, or both.

1. Write down who you serve: patients in treatment, discharged clients who keep training, or both.
2. If you treat patients, start a Physitrack or Exercise Pro Live trial (both two weeks) and build one real program.
3. If you coach after rehab, start on Trainera's Free plan with up to 3 clients and build the first training block for a discharged client.
4. Send the program to one real person and check on their phone how the demos and dosage read.
5. Decide the hand-over point between treatment and training, and write the message you send at that moment.

## FAQ

### How much does Physitrack cost per month?

Physitrack's US pricing page shows $18.99 per practitioner per month, or $227.88 per practitioner per year, with a custom quote for 20 or more practitioners (checked October 2026). UK pricing differs.

### How much does MedBridge HEP cost?

MedBridge business plans cost $329 per seat per year (checked October 2026). Care Essentials includes 100 HEP episodes per seat per year, pooled, then $1.50 per episode; Care Elite has unlimited HEP episodes.

### Can a physiotherapist use a personal trainer app for home exercise programs?

For patients in treatment, a dedicated HEP tool such as Physitrack, MedBridge or Exercise Pro Live is usually the better choice. A coaching app fits once the person moves from treatment to ongoing training, such as post-rehab strength work or paid online coaching.

### Is Trainera a HEP tool for physiotherapy clinics?

No. Trainera is coaching software for training plans, check-ins, habits and payments. It is not a clinical record system and is not built for RTM billing, so clinics should use a dedicated HEP tool for treatment.

### What is the cheapest home exercise program app for a solo physio?

Among the published prices checked in October 2026, Exercise Pro Live costs $134 a year for one user ($99 for the first year), and Physitrack costs $227.88 a year per practitioner. Check each vendor's page for your country.
