## What is the best AI fitness app in Ireland?

There is no single winner: the best AI fitness app for you in Ireland depends on whether you want training, food tracking or both. If you want AI training and nutrition plans in one app, Trainera Premium costs €7.99 a month (Pro is €6.99 and there is a free plan). If you only lift, Fitbod or the free tier of Alpha Progression are strong picks, and if you only track food, Cronometer's free tier or MacroFactor are worth a look.

This guide uses Irish sources: HSE guidelines and euro prices from the Irish App Store and vendor pages, checked October 2026\. For a global roundup, see our [best AI fitness app roundup](/blogs/best-ai-fitness-app).

## What the Irish guidelines ask of you (and of your app)

A good app should make Ireland's own activity targets easier to hit, not invent new ones.

The national guidelines are called [Every Move Counts](https://www.gov.ie/en/healthy-ireland/publications/every-move-counts-national-physical-activity-and-sedentary-behaviour-guidelines-for-ireland/), published on 12 March 2024 by the HSE and the Department of Health. For adults they recommend "at least 2 hours and 30 minutes to 5 hours of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity; or at least 1 hour and 15 minutes to 2 hours and 30 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity throughout the week", plus muscle-strengthening activities "that involve all major muscle groups" on "2 or more days a week". The HSE says it more simply on its [Get Active page](https://www2.hse.ie/living-well/exercise/get-active/about/): "Do strength activities on at least 2 days per week."

In June 2025 the guidelines were extended to cover pregnant and postpartum women and people living with chronic conditions. If either applies to you, talk to your GP or midwife before following an app's plan.

For food, the HSE's [How to eat well](https://www2.hse.ie/living-well/healthy-eating/how-to-eat-well/) page says: "Use the food pyramid as a guide for the types and amounts of food you need each day." For vegetables, salad and fruit it says: "Choose 5 to 7 servings a day."

| Irish guideline | What to look for in an app |
| ------------------------------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| 2.5 to 5 hours of moderate activity a week | Weekly activity totals and sync with your phone's health data or your watch |
| Strength work on 2 or more days a week | Strength plans that progress, exercise videos, and a log of sets, reps and weights |
| All major muscle groups | A plan that covers legs, back, chest, shoulders, arms and core across the week, not one area on repeat |
| Food pyramid, 5 to 7 servings of vegetables, salad and fruit a day | Food logging that shows more than calories: protein, fibre and what your plate is made of |
| Pregnancy, postpartum or a chronic condition | Your GP's advice first; the app's plan second |

An option before any app: the HSE describes Get Active as "a 10-week programme that helps you meet Ireland's Physical Activity Guidelines". If you are starting from zero, it is a sensible first step.

## What AI fitness apps cost in Ireland, in euro

On the listings we checked, monthly prices in Ireland run from under €10 to €34.99, and two well-known US apps are not on the Irish App Store at all.

The table uses each app's Irish App Store listing or the vendor's own page for Ireland, checked October 2026\. App Store lists show at most ten items and often mix old, promotional and current prices, so the price you see at checkout can differ.

Two apps you may have read about are missing on purpose. Future, which pairs you with a human coach, says on its [help centre](https://faq.future.co/en/articles/12073316-is-future-pro-available-internationally) that it is "currently only available in the United States". The Peloton App listing did not load in the Irish App Store either when we checked in October 2026.

## One app or two: what a year costs

If you want both training and nutrition, add the two prices together before comparing, because most training apps have no food tracking at all.

| Setup | Cost for a year in Ireland | Good for |
| --------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Alpha Progression free + Cronometer free | €0 | People happy to write their own plan and log by hand |
| Apple Fitness+ yearly + Cronometer free | €79.99 | Class lovers with an iPhone or Apple Watch who want basic food logging |
| Trainera Premium for 12 months | 12 x €7.99 = €95.88 (billed monthly; there is no yearly plan) | One app for AI training plans, AI nutrition plans and photo logging |
| Alpha Progression yearly + MacroFactor annual | €140.98 to €153.98, depending on the MacroFactor annual item (€60.99 or €73.99) | Lifters who want set-by-set suggestions and a dedicated macro coach |
| Fitbod yearly + Cronometer Gold annual | €151.98 to €169.98, depending on which Fitbod yearly item you are offered | Gym-goers who want AI workouts and detailed nutrient data |

The cheapest answer is still the free one. What you pay for is a plan that adapts and faster food logging.

## What "AI" actually means in these apps

The word covers very different features, so check what an app does with it before you pay.

* **Workout generation.** Fitbod builds sessions from your training history, and JuggernautAI adjusts powerlifting blocks from how ready you feel.
* **Chat coaches.** MyFitnessPal's AI Coach is available to Premium and Premium+ members on iOS, in English, and Ireland is one of the countries listed ([MyFitnessPal help](https://support.myfitnesspal.com/hc/en-us/articles/45212266254221-Introducing-Nutrition-Coach-Your-Nutrition-Assistant)). Google Health Premium's coach works only if you have a Fitbit or Pixel Watch and are over 18 ([Google Health help](https://support.google.com/googlehealth/answer/14237941?hl=en)).
* **Photo calorie estimates.** MyFitnessPal Meal Scan (Premium, English only), MacroFactor, Cronometer Gold and Trainera Premium all let you photograph a meal and log it.

Photo logging saves time, but treat the numbers as estimates. A 2024 study in Nutrients that tested food-logging apps found the best ones recognised foods well, yet "automatic energy estimations from AI-enabled food image recognition were inaccurate" ([PubMed abstract](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39125452/)). In practice: check the portion, correct items before saving, and weigh calorie-dense foods like oil, butter, nut butter and cheese now and then. Our [guide to AI calorie counter accuracy](/blogs/ai-calorie-counter-accuracy) goes through the evidence, and the [best calorie counter apps with AI photo](/blogs/best-calorie-counter-app-ai-photo) compares the apps themselves.

If tracking food makes you anxious, or you have a history of disordered eating, talk to your GP before you start counting calories in any app.

## Your data: who protects it in Ireland

Fitness apps hold personal things like your weight, progress photos and heart rate, so it helps to know who oversees them.

The [Data Protection Commission](https://www.dataprotection.ie/en) describes itself as "the Irish supervisory authority for the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)", so it is the body to contact if you think an app mishandled your personal data. Policies differ a lot. [MacroFactor's policy](https://macrofactor.com/privacy/) says "We do not sell your Personal Data to third parties", while [Noom's policy](https://www.noom.com/noom-privacy-policy/) carries the notice "This website may sell your sensitive personal data." Our [guide to privacy in AI fitness apps](/blogs/ai-fitness-app-privacy) has a full checklist.

## VAT and the price you actually pay

Compare the final checkout total, not the headline price on a review site.

Ireland's standard VAT rate is 23%, per [Revenue's current VAT rates](https://www.revenue.ie/en/vat/vat-rates/search-vat-rates/current-vat-rates.aspx) (effective 1 January 2026, checked October 2026). Before you subscribe, open the subscription screen, note the euro amount and the billing period, and set a reminder a day before any trial ends.

## Where Trainera fits for people in Ireland

Trainera suits you if you want one app for training and food at a lower monthly price than the training-only apps in the table above.

In Ireland, Trainera's client plans are priced in euro: Free costs nothing, Pro is €6.99 a month and Premium is €7.99 a month (prices on trainera.fit/pricing for Ireland; client plans are monthly only).

* **Free**, forever and with no card: workout logging, the diet tracker, 50 exercises, basic analytics, 1 AI training plan and 1 AI nutrition plan a month.
* **Pro** adds unlimited exercises, full analytics, 5 AI training and 5 AI nutrition plans a month, a weekly AI shopping list, TRAI (the in-app AI assistant) with 40 requests a month, and offline downloads.
* **Premium** adds AI food photo scanning (up to 20 a day), AI Nutrition Chat, 10 AI training plans, 10 AI nutrition plans and 10 AI workouts a month, and TRAI with 90 requests a month.

The photo scan is an AI estimate: it names the foods and estimates grams, calories and macros, and you can correct every item before logging. TRAI answers questions about training, nutrition, recovery and sleep and can build or change your own plans in chat, but it is not a medical service. You get more than 1,800 exercises with exercise videos and more than 1,100 recipes, on the web, iPhone and Android, with sync for Apple Health, Health Connect, Fitbit and Polar.

Where another app is the better pick: if you only run, Runna is built around race plans. If you mainly want guided video classes on Apple devices, Fitness+ at €9.99 a month is the natural choice. If you want detailed micronutrient tracking, Cronometer tracks up to 95 nutrients even on its free tier. And if you would rather have a person check your form and adjust your plan, see what that costs in our [guide to personal trainer costs in Ireland](/blogs/personal-trainer-cost-ireland). If your coach runs their clients on Trainera, you use the app for free.

## A one-week test before you pay

Use the free plan or trial for one normal week and judge the app on what you actually did, not on its feature list.

1. Write down your goal and how many days you can train, using the HSE baseline: strength on at least 2 days and at least 2.5 hours of moderate activity a week.
2. Install one training app and, if you need it, one food app. Not four.
3. Log every session and at least three days of meals. If logging already feels like a chore by day three, that app will not last.
4. Check the plan matches your setup: a home with two dumbbells, a gym in town, or a hotel room on a work trip.
5. Before the trial ends, open the subscription screen and note the euro price and billing period.
6. Read the privacy policy: does the company sell data, and how do you delete your account?

For prices outside Ireland and more apps side by side, our [AI fitness app price index](/blogs/ai-fitness-app-prices-2026) has them in one table.

### Can I use Future or the Peloton App in Ireland?

Future says it is currently only available in the United States, and neither the Future nor the Peloton App listing loaded in the Irish App Store when we checked in October 2026.

### Is MyFitnessPal's AI Coach available in Ireland?

Yes. MyFitnessPal's help centre lists Ireland among the countries where Coach is available, for Premium and Premium+ members on iOS with the app in English.

### Are AI photo calorie counters accurate?
