# Fitbod vs Future: AI Workouts or a Human Coach?

> Fitbod writes your workouts with AI for $15.99 a month or $95.99 a year. Future gives you a human coach for $199 a month, US only. Here is what each does, what a year costs, who should pick which, and a cheaper middle route.

## Fitbod or Future: which one should you pick?

**Pick Fitbod** if you want an app that writes and adjusts your strength workouts for $15.99 a month or $95.99 a year and you are happy to train without a person checking on you. **Pick Future** if you live in the US and the thing you are missing is a real coach who writes your program and holds you accountable, at $199 a month (or $1,788 for 12 months). If you want AI plans now and the option of a human coach later, there is a third route, covered further down.

Both prices come from the vendors' own pages, checked October 2026: [Fitbod's FAQ](https://fitbod.me/faqs/) and [Future's membership plans and pricing article](https://faq.future.co/en/articles/12073382-membership-plans-pricing). The gap is large. A year of Future on its cheapest plan costs more than 18 times a year of Fitbod, so the real question is not which app is better. It is whether you need a person or a plan.

## Fitbod vs Future at a glance

Fitbod is software that generates your workouts; Future is a coaching service delivered through an app.

## What Fitbod does: AI-generated strength workouts

Fitbod builds each strength session for you from what you have logged and keeps changing it as you train.

Its App Store listing describes "personalized AI workouts", "your own AI trainer" and "Adaptive AI learns from your edits to its workout recommendations". The FAQ explains the machine learning part in plain words: the algorithm "learns from your performance data, like reps, sets, fatigue, and rest". In practice you open the app, it hands you a workout based on your recent sessions, and you log what you actually did. Swap an exercise and the app takes that edit into account for later recommendations.

A few things worth knowing before you pay:

* **No coach.** The listing says "Pro fitness trainers available via email for all strength training questions." That is help on request, not someone who follows your progress.
* **No nutrition.** Neither the App Store listing nor the FAQ describes food tracking or meal plans, so you would add a separate calorie app if you want one.
* **Two sets of prices.** The website price is $15.99 a month or $95.99 a year. The US App Store also lists a $12.99 "Monthly Plan" and a $79.99 "A Year of Fitbod Elite", plus several legacy items, and it does not say which one a new user sees. Check the price in your own checkout screen. The full breakdown by country is in our [Fitbod pricing guide](/blogs/fitbod-pricing).
* **HSA and FSA.** Fitbod's homepage says it is "now covered by HSA / FSA", and the FAQ adds that it "may be eligible" with a Letter of Medical Necessity. Ask your plan administrator before you count on it.

## What Future does: a human coach inside an app

Future pairs you with one coach who writes your program, checks in with you and monitors your progress.

In Future's words: "Future Pro pairs you with a dedicated, expert coach", "Our coaches create your program" and "Your coach checks in, monitors your progress, and holds you accountable." The app is the delivery channel. The coach is the product, and Future makes no AI claims at all; the word does not appear on its homepage or App Store description.

* **US only.** Future's help center says "[Future Pro is currently only available in the United States](https://faq.future.co/en/articles/12073316-is-future-pro-available-internationally)," and you need a US payment method, a US phone number and the US App Store. The listing did not load in the UK, Australian, Irish, Swiss or German storefronts when we checked.
* **Nutrition is guidance.** The homepage now advertises health coaching for "nutrition, sleep, and more". The [nutrition help article](https://faq.future.co/en/articles/12240765-does-future-pro-include-nutrition) says coaches give "Healthy eating guidance" but do not create custom meal plans or prescribe calorie or macronutrient targets.
* **Refund instead of trial.** There is no free trial. The homepage says "Cancel within 30 days for a full refund."

What a good coach adds that an algorithm does not: someone notices when you skip a week, asks why, and changes the plan around a sore knee or a new job. Whether that is worth the price depends on your history. Our longer [Trainera vs Future comparison](/blogs/trainera-vs-future-comparison) goes deeper into Future's coaching model.

## What each costs per year

A year of Fitbod costs $95.99 on the yearly website plan; a year of Future costs $1,788 at the lowest and $2,388 if you pay month to month.

| How you pay | Cost for 12 months | How it adds up |
| ---------------------------------------- | ------------------ | -------------------------------------------- |
| Fitbod, yearly (website) | $95.99 | One payment |
| Fitbod, monthly (website) | $191.88 | 12 x $15.99 |
| Future, 12-month plan | $1,788 | One payment, works out to $149 a month |
| Future, two 6-month plans | $2,028 | 2 x $1,014 |
| Future, four 3-month plans | $2,148 | 4 x $537 |
| Future, monthly with the $50 intro month | $2,239 | $50 + 11 x $199, if the offer applies to you |
| Future, monthly | $2,388 | 12 x $199 |

These are simple sums of the published prices (Fitbod FAQ, Future pricing article and homepage, checked October 2026). They assume renewals cost the same, which neither company promises.

One honest point about the cheap option: a year of Fitbod paid up front is only cheap if you still open it in month eight. The same is true of Future's 12-month plan, only with far more money at stake. Before you prepay for either, be honest about whether you will still be training in month eight.

## Who should pick which

It depends on what has stopped you before: not knowing what to do, or not doing it.

### Fitbod fits you if

* You already train two or three times a week and mostly want someone (or something) to decide the session.
* Your main goal is strength training and you like seeing weights and reps go up.
* You are fine handling food on your own or in another app.
* You live outside the US, or $199 a month is out of reach.

### Future fits you if

* You have started and dropped self-guided programs more than once, and accountability is the missing piece.
* You want a person to adjust training around injuries, travel and busy weeks.
* You live in the US and $149 to $199 a month fits your budget without strain.
* You do not need calorie or macro targets from your coach.

### Neither is a perfect fit if

* You want training and nutrition in one app: Fitbod describes no food tracking and Future coaches do not set calorie or macro targets.
* You want an app in a language other than English, Spanish or Portuguese.
* You have a health condition, are pregnant or take GLP-1 medication. Talk to your doctor before starting either, whether a coach or an algorithm writes the plan.

If you are still unsure whether software can stand in for a person at all, [can AI replace a personal trainer](/blogs/can-ai-replace-a-personal-trainer) walks through what each does well.

## The third option: AI plans now, a human coach when you want one

You do not have to choose between an algorithm forever and a $199 coach from day one: some apps give you AI plans for a few dollars a month and let a real coach take over in the same app later.

Trainera is one of them. It is an [AI fitness coach app](/ai-fitness-coach) on the web, iOS and Android, in 26 languages. Here is what it offers people who train on their own (US prices, billed monthly; prices differ by country on trainera.fit/pricing):

| Plan | Price | What you get |
| ------- | ------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Free | $0, no card | Workout logging, diet tracker with calories and macros, 50 exercises, basic analytics, 1 AI training plan and 1 AI nutrition plan a month |
| Pro | $5.99 a month | Unlimited exercises, full analytics, 5 AI training and 5 AI nutrition plans a month, a weekly AI shopping list, TRAI (the in-app AI assistant) with 40 requests a month, offline downloads |
| Premium | $6.99 a month | AI food photo scan (up to 20 a day), AI Nutrition Chat, 10 AI training plans, 10 AI nutrition plans and 10 AI workouts a month, TRAI with 90 requests a month |

How it compares with the other two, honestly:

* **Against Fitbod:** Trainera puts training and nutrition in one app, with more than 1,800 exercises and exercise videos, and twelve months of Premium at $6.99 a month cost less than Fitbod's $95.99 yearly website plan. Fitbod's strength is its session-by-session adaptive algorithm. If all you want is a lifting app that picks your next workout, Fitbod may suit you better. Our [Trainera vs Fitbod](/blogs/trainera-vs-fitbod) page compares them feature by feature.
* **Against Future:** Trainera does not assign you a coach. TRAI can build or change your training and nutrition plans in chat and answer training questions, but it is not a person who follows up, and it is not medical advice.
* **The coach part:** if you decide you want a human, the [trainer marketplace](/trainers-marketplace) lists coaches who work in Trainera. A client coached by a trainer uses the app for free, so you pay for the coaching, not for a second app subscription. What online coaching usually costs is covered in [how much an online personal trainer costs](/blogs/how-much-does-an-online-personal-trainer-cost).
* **Food scan limits:** the Premium photo scan is an AI estimate of the foods, grams, calories and macros on your plate. You check and correct it before logging. It does not replace weighing food.

Wearables: the iPhone app includes an Apple Watch app and syncs with Apple Health; the Android app uses Health Connect; Fitbit and Polar connect too.

## A quick checklist to choose in ten minutes

Answer these five questions and the right pick usually becomes obvious.

1. **Do you live in the US?** If not, Future is off the table today.
2. **Have you quit self-guided plans before?** If yes more than once, a human coach (Future, or a coach you choose) is worth pricing out.
3. **Do you need food tracking or macro targets?** If yes, neither Fitbod nor Future covers it alone; plan for a second app or one that does both.
4. **What can you spend for a full year?** If your budget sits closer to Fitbod's $95.99 than to Future's $1,788, the choice makes itself.
5. **Can you test it first?** Use Fitbod's 7-day trial or Future's 30-day refund window, and check the price on your own checkout screen before the first renewal.

## FAQ

### Is Fitbod or Future better?

It depends on what you need. Fitbod ($15.99 a month or $95.99 a year on its website, checked October 2026) is better if you want AI-generated strength workouts and train consistently. Future ($199 a month, US only) is better if you need a human coach who writes your program and holds you accountable.

### Why is Future so much more expensive than Fitbod?

Future pays for a dedicated human coach who writes your program and checks in with you, while Fitbod's workouts come from an algorithm. Future costs $199 a month or $1,788 for 12 months; Fitbod costs $15.99 a month or $95.99 a year.

### Can I use Future outside the US?

No. Future's help center says Future Pro is currently only available in the United States and needs a US payment method, phone number and App Store account. Fitbod's App Store listing also loaded in the UK, Ireland, Australia, Germany and Switzerland when we checked in October 2026.

### Does Fitbod or Future include a meal plan?

Neither gives you a meal plan. Fitbod's FAQ and App Store listing describe no nutrition tracking. Future coaches give healthy eating guidance but, per Future's help center, do not create meal plans or set calorie or macro targets.

### Is there a cheaper app with AI workouts and a real coach?

Some apps combine both. Trainera, for example, has a free plan and paid plans at $5.99 and $6.99 a month (US) with AI training and nutrition plans, and a trainer marketplace where you can find a human coach. Clients coached by a trainer use the app for free.
