## Hevy Coach or Trainerize: which fits your coaching?

Choose **Hevy Coach** if you mainly program lifting, your clients like logging sets in the Hevy app, and you want the lowest price for a small roster ($25 a month for up to 10 clients). Choose **Trainerize** if you also coach nutrition, want clients to pay you in the same app, need annual billing, or want a custom branded app. The cheaper tool flips more than once as your roster grows (Trainerize wins at 26-30 clients, Hevy Coach at 31-50), so check your exact client count against the tables below.

Prices here were checked October 2026 on [Hevy Coach pricing](https://hevycoach.com/pricing) and [Trainerize pricing](https://www.trainerize.com/pricing/), both in US dollars.

## Two different products, not two versions of the same one

Hevy Coach is a coaching layer on top of a workout logger; Trainerize is a general coaching platform with training, nutrition and payment tools.

With Hevy Coach, your clients train in the regular Hevy app, and Hevy Coach promises "Free Hevy Pro for all your clients". You build programs and training plans, follow their progress and chat with them. Its features page lists unlimited workout programs, a workout builder, a training plan builder, progress tracking, client chat, and coaching teams that share one exercise library ([Hevy Coach features](https://hevycoach.com/features/)). The video exercise library has 400+ exercises, and you can create your own.

Trainerize sells a wider set of tools. Its pricing page headlines an AI workout builder, custom client programs, meal and macro tracking for clients, custom exercise videos, leaderboard and threshold challenges, and a Trainerize.me profile. Extra modules such as advanced nutrition, video coaching, business tools and Stripe payments are paid add-ons on the Grow and Pro plans.

In practice, the question is less "which is better" and more "how much of your coaching happens outside the barbell".

## Plans and prices side by side

Hevy Coach has one plan priced by client band and billed monthly only; Trainerize has a free plan, a Grow plan and Pro tiers, with an annual option that saves 10%.

| Branded app | None offered | Custom branded app on Pro: $169 one-time, plus your Apple developer account |
| Large rosters | Bands up to 1,000 clients; coaching teams share one library | Studio Plus (500 clients) and Studio Max (1,000) include every add-on |

One small inconsistency: Hevy Coach's FAQ says it serves "from 1 client to 500", while its own client selector goes up to 1,000\. If you are above 500 clients, confirm with Hevy Coach.

## Hevy Coach vs Trainerize cost at 10, 30 and 75 clients

Hevy Coach is cheaper at 10 and 75 clients on monthly billing; Trainerize is cheaper at 30 clients, and Trainerize's annual billing narrows the gap at 75.

| Clients | Hevy Coach (monthly only) | Trainerize, monthly | Trainerize, annual (per month) |
| ------- | ------------------------- | ------------------- | ------------------------------ |
| 10      | $25 (1-10 band)           | $50 (Pro 15)        | $45                            |
| 30      | $90 (26-50 band)          | $79 (Pro 30)        | $71                            |
| 75      | $160 (51-100 band)        | $180 (Pro 75)       | $162                           |

Because the two tools use different client bands, the winner changes at other counts too:

* **11 to 15 clients:** both cost $50 a month (Hevy 11-25 band, Trainerize Pro 15).
* **16 to 25 clients:** Hevy Coach $50, Trainerize Pro 30 $79.
* **31 to 50 clients:** Hevy Coach $90, Trainerize Pro 50 $135.
* **76 to 100 clients:** Hevy Coach $160, Trainerize Pro 100 $225.
* **101 to 200 clients:** both $250 a month.

Our separate guides break down [Hevy Coach pricing](/blogs/hevy-coach-pricing) and [Trainerize pricing](/blogs/trainerize-pricing) in more detail.

## What does Trainerize cost once you add nutrition and payments?

For a coach who sells training plus nutrition and wants clients to pay in the app, a 30-client Trainerize account costs $134 a month on monthly billing.

That figure is Pro 30 at $79, plus Advanced Nutrition Coaching at $45 (the price on Pro 30 to Pro 200), plus Stripe Integrated Payments at $10\. Stripe's own processing fee comes on top; Trainerize's Stripe page sends you to Stripe for those rates ([Trainerize Stripe payments](https://www.trainerize.com/features/stripe-payments/)). At 10 clients on Pro 15, the same set is $50 + $20 + $10 = $80.

Hevy Coach has no comparable line items to add, because nutrition coaching and client payments do not appear on its pricing page at all. That is the real trade: a lower bill and a narrower tool. If you already handle nutrition in a spreadsheet and invoices through your bank, Hevy Coach's price is the full price. If you want those inside the app, compare Trainerize's total, not its headline tier.

## Which coach fits which tool?

Match your coaching style to the tool rather than counting features.

| Your situation                                             | Better fit | Reason                                                                                             |
| ---------------------------------------------------------- | ---------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Strength or powerlifting coach, 10 or fewer remote clients | Hevy Coach | $25 a month, and clients log in an app built around sets and reps |
| Clients already use Hevy on their own | Hevy Coach | No new app to learn; they keep training in the app they know |
| You write meal plans or set macros for most clients | Trainerize | Meal and macro tracking, with an advanced nutrition add-on |
| Clients pay you by card each month | Trainerize | Stripe payments add-on for $10 a month |
| You want to pay yearly for a lower rate | Trainerize | Annual billing saves 10%; Hevy Coach is monthly only |
| You want your logo on the client's phone | Trainerize | Custom branded app on Pro for $169 one-time; Hevy Coach has none |
| More than 200 clients | Trainerize | Studio Plus is $275 a month for up to 500 clients with every add-on; Hevy Coach is $360 at 201-300 |

## The branded app question

If a branded app matters to you, the comparison ends quickly: Trainerize sells one and Hevy Coach does not.

Trainerize's Pro-level custom branded app costs a $169 one-time fee and needs your own Apple Developer account, which Trainerize says is "currently priced at $99USD/year charged directly by Apple" ([Trainerize custom branded apps](https://www.trainerize.com/features/custom-branded-fitness-apps/)). Studio plans include a Studio-level branded app, and Enterprise includes one with a separate app store listing. Hevy Coach clients use the Hevy app, which some lifters see as a plus: it is a known logger, and you do not have to maintain an app listing.

## Moving clients between the two

Switching either way means a new app for your clients, so plan the move around a training week, not mid-block.

1. Finish the current mesocycle or training block in the old app.
2. Rebuild your three most used programs in the new tool first and check every exercise has a demo.
3. Export or screenshot each client's recent top sets so their working weights carry over.
4. Invite clients in small groups, starting with those who train most consistently.
5. Keep the old account until every client has logged at least one full week in the new one.

A message you can send: "Hi \[name\], your next block starts in a new app on Monday. Your program and your last working weights are already loaded. Please accept the invite today and log your first session there. If anything looks wrong, reply here and I'll fix it before you train." If you are weighing other tools at the same time, our [Trainerize alternatives](/blogs/top-5-trainerize-alternatives) list and the guide to [software for strength and bodybuilding coaches](/blogs/software-for-strength-and-bodybuilding-coaches) are good next reads.

## Another option: Trainera for lifting plus nutrition

Trainera sits between the two: a full coaching platform with strength-friendly logging, sold at a flat price per plan.

Clients log workouts in the Trainera app on iOS, Android and web. The iPhone app comes with an Apple Watch app, where clients log sets with a rest timer and heart rate, and the session syncs live with you. On the web you build plans by drag and drop and group exercises into supersets, and a new personal record is flagged in an exercise's history. Clients can connect Apple Health, Health Connect, Fitbit or Polar. Nutrition plans draw on 1,100+ recipes, and the exercise library has more than 1,800 exercises with video.

Trainera's Free plan covers 3 clients at $0; Starter is $19.99 a month for 10 clients, Pro $49.99 for 30, Business $99 for 75, and Enterprise is custom priced with no client cap. These are US-dollar prices; they differ by country on [trainera.fit/pricing](/pricing), and yearly billing is about 10 times the monthly price. Two honest limits: coaching payments through Trainera's Stripe or PayPal carry a platform fee by plan (8% on Free and Starter down to 1% on Enterprise, 0% on cash and bank transfer), and a trainer's own store app is only on Enterprise. If your clients love the Hevy app itself, Hevy Coach keeps them there; our [Trainera vs Hevy](/blogs/trainera-vs-hevy) post covers that trade.

## How to decide this week

Write down your client count today and in six months, and whether you coach nutrition and take card payments. If the answers are "under 10 or 31-50 clients, lifting only, paid outside the app", Hevy Coach is the cheaper fit. If nutrition, in-app payments, annual billing or a branded app are on the list, price Trainerize with those add-ons and start its 30-day trial.
