TRAI for solo clients: Client Pro vs Premium explained
Solo clients get TRAI on Client Pro (40 requests a month) and Premium (90). Both build and save training and nutrition plans; Premium adds 20 food photo scans a day. Limits, examples and which to pick.

What can TRAI do for you on Client Pro vs Premium if you train without a trainer?
If you use Trainera on your own, with no trainer and no gym membership, TRAI is included on Client Pro with 40 requests a month and on Client Premium with 90. The US prices are $5.99 and $6.99 a month. On both plans TRAI builds and saves training and nutrition plans to your account; Premium also adds the AI food photo scan (up to 20 scans a day), which is a separate feature from the TRAI chat.
Prices differ by country, so check trainera.fit/pricing for yours. Everything below describes what TRAI does today on a solo client account, including what it does not do.
Who gets TRAI as a client?
Only solo clients on a paid client plan. If a trainer or a gym coaches you, they are the ones with AI tools, not your client account.
| Your situation | TRAI chat? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Solo, on Client Free | No | Free has no TRAI allowance |
| Solo, on Client Pro | Yes, 40 requests a month | Paid solo plan |
| Solo, on Client Premium | Yes, 90 requests a month | Paid solo plan |
| Coached by a trainer in Trainera | No, the chat launcher is hidden | Your trainer plans your training |
| Active gym membership in Trainera | No, the server also refuses it | Gym members are excluded |
TRAI works on the web and in the iOS and Android app. Your chats are stored on the server, so the same conversation shows on your phone and your laptop.
Client Pro vs Premium: what each plan includes
The difference is the size of the monthly allowance and a few AI features outside the chat.
| Feature | Client Free | Client Pro | Client Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price per month (US) | $0 | $5.99 | $6.99 |
| TRAI chat requests per month | 0 (no TRAI) | 40 | 90 |
| AI training plans (Generate button) | 1 | 5 | 10 |
| AI nutrition plans (Generate button) | 1 | 5 | 10 |
| AI single workouts (Generate button) | 0 | 0 | 10 |
| AI food photo scan | No | No | Up to 20 a day |
The Generate-button quotas are separate from TRAI. A plan that TRAI builds inside the chat costs one chat request and does not use the Generate quota.
How requests are counted
- One request per message you send. A message that builds a full plan is still one request.
- Clicking Yes or No on a confirmation card is free; it continues the same message.
- If a run fails or returns nothing, the request is given back.
- The allowance runs per calendar month. The chat header shows how many you have used. At the limit, TRAI tells you it resets next month.
For a deeper look at the numbers, see TRAI request limits explained.
What TRAI does on a solo account
It acts as a personal coach in chat and as a plan builder that saves straight to your account.
- Advice: concrete answers on food, training, recovery and habits. When a detail is missing, it asks one short question.
- Training plans: creates your first plan, adds new days, rebuilds one day or replaces the plan.
- Nutrition plans: creates a nutrition plan and makes it your active plan for logging meals, or adds days to the active plan.
- Library search: finds exercises and meals in Trainera's library when you dictate specific ones.
Plans are built by the same engine as the app's Generate buttons: real library exercises with images and videos, sessions ordered warm-up, main work, cardio and stretching, with your equipment and injuries respected. Why that matters is covered in real exercises, real videos.
Example prompts (examples, write them your own way):
- Example: "Make me a 3-day plan for home. I have two dumbbells and a resistance band, 40 minutes a session, and my left knee does not like jumping."
- Example: "Build a 7-day lactose-free meal plan at 2,100 kcal with 4 meals a day. I eat chicken only stewed, and on Saturday I want a free dinner."
- Example: "Add 2 more days to my plan, both upper body."
- Example: "Day 3 is too long. Rebuild it as a 30-minute session."
How does TRAI handle your preferences and limits?
Everything you say in the conversation is treated as a hard rule for the plan.
Before it builds, TRAI goes through the whole chat and collects the foods you avoid, intolerances, how you eat a food, meals you like, your calorie target, meals per day (which can differ by weekday), training days, equipment and injuries. Lactose-free, for example, means every dairy item is lactose-free or plant-based. It is told never to ask again for something you already said. More on food rules in AI meal plans that respect your rules, and on equipment in telling an AI coach what equipment you have.
TRAI builds first and asks later. When you ask for a plan, it builds it in the same turn using your profile and sensible defaults (a gym if you name no place or equipment), then says in one short line what it assumed so you can adjust. It only asks before building when a missing detail cannot be safely assumed.
If a goal is unrealistic or unsafe, such as losing 10 kg in a month on 900 kcal a day, TRAI says so briefly, suggests a realistic alternative and builds the safer version. For a reference point on weekly activity, the WHO physical activity recommendations for adults are 150-300 minutes of moderate aerobic activity a week plus muscle-strengthening on 2 or more days.
What saves straight away and what asks first?
Additions save directly; anything that overwrites asks you first.
| Action | Saved how |
|---|---|
| Create your first training plan | Directly |
| Add days to your training plan | Directly |
| Add days to your active nutrition plan | Directly |
| Rebuild or overwrite one training day | After you confirm (that day's progress is reset) |
| Replace your whole training plan | After you confirm |
| Save a new nutrition plan (it replaces the active one, if you have one) | After you confirm |
If you already have a plan with workouts and ask for new ones without saying where they go, TRAI offers three options: keep the plan, add to it, or replace it.
Food scan, barcode and TRAI: three different tools
Only one of them is the TRAI chat, and they are counted separately.
| Tool | What it does | Availability |
|---|---|---|
| TRAI chat | Advice, builds and saves plans | Pro 40, Premium 90 requests a month |
| AI food photo scan | Estimates a meal from a photo | Premium, up to 20 a day |
| Barcode scan | Looks the product up in Open Food Facts; a database lookup, not AI | Separate from TRAI |
If photo logging is your main reason to upgrade, compare options in the best calorie counter apps with AI photo.
What TRAI does not do for solo clients
Knowing the limits helps you write better messages.
- It does not review your logged workouts. Its tools work with your plans and the exercise and meal library. Tell it how training went ("squats felt easy, day 2 took 70 minutes") and it can adjust from that.
- No PDFs. On mobile you can attach images only; on the web it reads text files, .docx and images.
- No voice input. You type your messages.
- Limited memory. Each turn sees the newest 40 messages of the chat. You can keep up to 5 saved chats, and starting a sixth deletes the oldest.
- Not a doctor. The plan engine adapts to injuries and pregnancy by choosing lower-impact work, but that does not replace medical advice. The chat says it too: "AI can make mistakes. Double-check important results."
- It never deletes anything in your account.
An example month on 40 requests
A worked example shows how far 40 messages go; the split below is an illustration, not usage data.
| What you do | Messages |
|---|---|
| Ask for a training plan with all your rules in one message | 1 |
| Correct what it assumed (shorter sessions, no running) | 1 |
| Ask for a nutrition plan, then confirm the save | 1 (the confirm click is free) |
| Swap two meals you do not like | 1 |
| Add more training days twice during the month | 2 |
| Questions about recovery, protein or soreness, about two a week | 8-10 |
| Total | about 14-16 of 40 |
In this example a careful user stays well inside Pro. Someone who chats daily, asks follow-ups on every meal or rebuilds days often will reach 40 sooner, and that is where Premium's 90 makes sense.
Which plan should you pick?
It depends on how often you will talk to it, not on how many plans you need.
- Client Pro (40 a month) suits someone who builds a plan, adds days now and then and asks a handful of questions a week.
- Client Premium (90 a month) suits someone who uses TRAI most days, adjusts meals often, or wants food photo scans.
- Client Free still gives you one AI training plan and one AI nutrition plan from the Generate buttons, without the chat.
If you are unsure whether you need a coach at all, can AI replace a personal trainer? is an honest look, and the best app to train on your own compares setups for solo training.
How to get the most from your monthly requests
- Put all your rules in one message: days, minutes, equipment, injuries, foods you avoid.
- Let TRAI build, read what it assumed, then correct it in one reply.
- Ask for added days instead of a new plan when you want more variety.
- Keep one chat per topic (training, nutrition) so the newest 40 messages stay relevant.
