How much does a personal trainer cost in Belgium?

A personal trainer in Belgium typically costs €40 to €90 per session, with top trainers in Brussels and Antwerp at €90 to €150 or more, according to a 1 April 2026 overview by Healthy Center, a PT studio in Heusden-Zolder (Limburg). Published Flemish examples sit in the same band: €75 for a 1:1 session at STERK in Gent and €80 at Vigor in Antwerp, plus an €80 intake (Superprof, 2023). PT inside a budget gym chain starts lower, at about €30 to €60 a session.

These are typical ranges reported by a Belgian PT studio's blog and a tutoring marketplace, not an official survey. We found no sourced PT price survey for Wallonia, so the regional picture below is strongest for Flanders and Brussels.

Personal trainer prices by type of trainer

The kind of trainer you book matters more than the city: a chain-gym PT, an independent trainer and a specialist studio are three different price levels.

Type of trainer or offerTypical priceSource and year
Beginner trainer€40 to €60 per sessionHealthy Center, 2026
Experienced trainer€60 to €90 per sessionHealthy Center, 2026
Top trainers in Brussels and Antwerp€90 to €150+ per sessionHealthy Center, 2026
PT at a Basic-Fit club€30 to €60 per session, first session about €25Superprof, 2023
Independent personal trainer in Flanders€40 to €70 per hourSuperprof, 2023
Trainers offering lessons on Superprof€15 to €60 per hourSuperprof, 2023

The Superprof figures are from October 2023, so treat them as a floor rather than today's price. Sources: Superprof, kosten personal trainer Vlaanderen; Healthy Center, personal trainer kosten België.

Antwerp, Gent, Brussels and Wallonia: what we can actually source

Only a handful of Belgian studios publish prices, so the city examples are few but concrete.

City or regionPublished exampleAverage gym membership (Numbeo, Oct 2026)
GentSTERK: €75 1:1, €40 small group, €90 at home (2023)€31.50 a month
AntwerpVigor: €80 per session plus €80 intake (2023)€33.31 a month
BrusselsTop trainers €90 to €150+ per session (2026 range)€29.41 a month
Liège (Wallonia)No sourced PT price found€37.49 a month

For people searching "personal trainer antwerpen prijs" or "personal trainer gent prijs": expect roughly €75 to €90 for an independent 1:1 session, more at home, and ask whether an intake is charged on top. For "prix coach sportif" in Brussels or Wallonia, ask for the hourly rate and the price per session inside a 10-pack, then compare with the ranges above.

Belgian gym memberships are cheap compared with PT: one session costs more than two months at an average gym in Brussels.

Why VAT makes Belgian PT prices differ: 6% or 21%

In Belgium, personal training is taxed at 21% VAT when gym access is only a side part of the training, and at 6% when the coaching is a side part of facility access.

This follows circular 2022/C/118, issued after an EU court ruling in 2022. The 6% rate applies when the main service is access to the facility, the member can also use it outside lessons, and the same operator supplies both. The 21% rate applies when access is ancillary to the training, for example a PT studio where you can only come in during your session (btw-lijn.be; Fitness.be).

SituationVAT rateA €60 net session costs
PT studio, access only during your sessions21%€72.60
Coaching that comes with a full gym membership from the same operator6%€63.60
Trainer under the small-business exemption (turnover up to €25,000)No VAT charged€60.00

In late 2025 the federal government planned to raise VAT on sport from 6% to 12%. On 13 February 2026 it decided not to apply the rise to sport activities, so sport stays at 6% for now (Lokaal Sportbeleid). Belgian media described it as a postponement, so watch for a new proposal.

The small-business VAT exemption (vrijstellingsregeling) covers businesses with annual turnover of at most €25,000; they charge no VAT and cannot reclaim VAT on costs. This is a general explanation, not tax advice: trainers should confirm their own rate with an accountant.

What a personal trainer costs per month in Belgium

Once a week with an independent trainer at €75 to €90 a session comes to about €320 to €390 a month; twice a week doubles that.

That figure is arithmetic on the published examples above (about 4.3 sessions a month), not a quoted price. A Basic-Fit PT at €30 to €60 a session works out to roughly €130 to €260 a month once a week. Packages usually bring the per-session price down, so ask for both numbers.

In practice, a common way to get results without paying €300+ a month is to split the work: one live session every week or two for technique and progress checks, and a written plan in an app for the other days. Our guide to hybrid personal training shows how trainers set that up.

How intake fees and small groups change the real price

An intake fee raises your real price per session in the first weeks, and a small group lowers it by about half.

Take the published Antwerp example of €80 a session plus an €80 intake. If you book four sessions in your first month, you pay €400, which is €100 per session. Over ten sessions the same intake spreads out to €88 per session. The intake is often worth it (a movement check, goals, a first plan), but put it in the math when you compare with a trainer who does not charge one.

Small-group training is the other lever. STERK in Gent published €40 per person for small-group sessions against €75 for 1:1 (2023). You get less individual attention, but for general strength and fitness, two or three people with similar goals train well together. Duo sessions with a partner or friend are a common way to split the bill.

A common mistake is buying a large package before the first session. Book one or two sessions, see whether the trainer's style suits you, and only then commit to a 10-pack.

Online coaching in Belgium: what it costs

We found no sourced Belgian price for monthly online coaching; in the neighboring Netherlands it is reported at €100 to €200 a month for weekly guidance (Gymsearch, 2026).

Online coaching does not depend on where the coach lives, so the Dutch band is a usable reference point. For that fee you typically get a training plan, regular adjustments, check-ins and chat, but no trainer next to you. If you already know how to train, it is the cheapest way to get structured coaching. If you are new to lifting, a few live sessions first are usually worth the money. More on service levels in what an online personal trainer costs, and the Dutch numbers in detail in the sibling guide on personal trainer costs in the Netherlands.

What to check before you pay a Belgian trainer

We could not confirm a legal diploma requirement for personal trainers in Flanders, Brussels or Wallonia, so the checks are up to you.

  • Training and experience. Ask what education the trainer has and how long they have coached clients like you.
  • Enterprise number. A self-employed trainer has a KBO/BCE number; it belongs on the invoice.
  • Price including VAT. Ask which rate applies (6%, 21% or exempt) and whether the intake is extra.
  • Package rules. How long are prepaid sessions valid, and what happens if you cancel late?
  • Between sessions. Is there a plan, an app and a way to ask questions?

If the trainer works inside a gym, the gym's own rules apply too. FOD Economie says Belgian gyms must show prices legibly, cannot ask for your personal data before showing them, and must accept cash for payments made in person. A gym may require domiciliëring (direct debit) for online subscriptions, but only with your explicit consent. Subscription rules are changing in 2027; see the sibling guide on the new Belgian gym subscription law.

Where Trainera fits

Trainera does not set trainer prices; it is the app and marketplace trainers and clients use to work together.

  • Find a trainer or online coach on the Trainera trainer marketplace.
  • The client app is free on iOS, Android and web, and runs in 26 languages including Dutch and French. With a trainer, you get the features of your trainer's plan: training and nutrition plans, check-ins, habits and chat.
  • Paying a trainer: trainers choose request only, a monthly subscription by card (Apple Pay and Google Pay supported), pay per plan, or cash for in-person sessions. Trainera does not offer Bancontact or domiciliëring; a trainer who wants those handles them outside the app.
  • Training on your own: on trainera.fit/pricing for Belgium, Client Pro is €6.99 a month and Client Premium €7.99 a month.

Trainers in Belgium pay from €19.99 a month for Trainera Starter (10 clients) or €49.99 for Pro (30 clients). Gyms and studios looking at software can read our post on gym software in Belgium.
