Trainera New Features: October 2026 Update

What is new in Trainera in October 2026?
Three changes matter most. Automations, the welcomes, reminders and follow-ups that send themselves, are now part of every paid trainer plan. Community, a private members-only feed, runs on the web, iOS and Android. And TRAI, the built-in AI assistant, now keeps its chat history on the server, so a conversation you start on the laptop continues on your phone.
Below: what shipped between September and October 2026, which plan includes what, and what existing customers should check. Prices are US prices; the pricing page shows your country's price.
Automations: what they are and what shipped
Trainera Automations send welcomes, reminders and follow-ups to clients and gym members on their own. You start from a ready-made template or build a flow with If/Else branches, and every flow respects quiet hours, per-person limits and STOP replies.
- More than 60 templates. Coaching templates for trainers (welcome week, missed check-in, plan ending, invoice overdue, referral requests) and gym templates for gyms (speed to lead, first visit, absence ladder, membership expiring, Google review).
- More than 70 triggers, from a new coaching request or a finished workout to a membership about to end or a member who stopped coming.
- Custom triggers you save and reuse, for example a date field plus or minus a number of days.
- A visual builder with If/Else branches, waits (a set time, a date, or until an event such as a finished workout), coaching steps (assign a plan, a check-in, a habit or a questionnaire, add the client to a group) and team steps (a task or follow-up for you or your staff, a lead status change, assign a trainer).
- An activity log with the reason each step was sent, skipped or delayed, a daily digest at 08:00, version history, and restore for an archived automation.
- A native builder in the mobile app for trainers.
The full list of templates and triggers is on the Automations page. For what is worth automating in a coaching business and what should always stay personal, read our guide to automation for personal trainers.
Channels: your own accounts, no per-message fee
In-app chat and push work from day one. Everything else goes through an account you own.
| Channel | How it connects | Who charges for sending |
|---|---|---|
| In-app chat and push | Built in, nothing to set up | Nobody, it is part of the plan |
| Your own SMTP or email provider account | Your email provider, at its own rates | |
| SMS | Your own Twilio account | Twilio, at its own rates |
| Viber | Your own Viber Business account | Viber, at its own rates |
| Your WhatsApp Business number connected through Meta, or WhatsApp assist: a prepared message you send yourself with one tap | Meta, at its own rates, when you use your connected number |
Trainera adds no per-message fee on any channel.
Safety rules that are on by default
- Quiet hours from 21:00 to 08:00, editable, plus sending days. A reply to a message the person just sent goes out right away.
- At most 2 automated messages a day and 6 a week per person from one sender, by default.
- A marketing message waits if the person got one in the last 12 hours.
- Soft-touch steps are skipped when you or your staff wrote to the person in the last 24 hours.
- STOP replies are honoured in chat, WhatsApp, SMS and Viber, emails carry an unsubscribe link, and people choose between all automated messages or marketing only.
- One-click pause and an emergency stop. Only the owner can use them, not staff.
- Optional approval before sending: never, marketing only, or every message.
- New accounts send at most 50 automated messages a day in their first 7 days.
In practice, the 24-hour rule is what keeps it from feeling like a bot: if you just answered a client about their knee, a generic "how is the week going?" nudge does not land a minute later.
AI inside Automations
Describe what you want and TRAI drafts the flow and the messages. It can also explain why a specific client is or is not in an automation, and every change can be undone. For trainers, AI inside Automations comes with Enterprise. An AI never switches an automation on by itself: in the app it asks for your confirmation, and an external AI tool cannot activate one at all.
Which Trainera plan gets what
Trainer plans, billed monthly, US prices:
| Starter ($19.99) | Pro ($49.99) | Business ($99) | Enterprise (custom) | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Clients | 10 | 30 | 75 | Unlimited |
| Active automations | 1 | 3 | 10 | Unlimited |
| Automated messages per day | 50 | 200 | 1,000 | Unlimited |
| Visual builder with If/Else | No, templates | No, templates | Yes | Yes |
| AI inside Automations | No | No | No | Yes |
| Community feed | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Challenges, leaderboards, automatic and scheduled posts | No | No | Yes | Yes |
| MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT and others | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
The Free plan (3 clients) has neither Automations nor Community. "Active automations" means live sequences; one-off confirmations do not count toward the limit. Yearly billing is about 10 times the monthly price.
What changed for existing customers
The packaging change took effect on 27 September 2026. Before that, a trainer needed the Enterprise plan to use Automations. What it means now:
- Starter, Pro or Business: Automations are part of your plan, within the limits in the table above. Open Automations in the dashboard and start from a template.
- Enterprise: nothing is taken away. Unlimited sequences, the builder and AI inside Automations stay as they were.
- Changing to a smaller plan later: sequences above the new limit are paused, not deleted.
- Community: the feed starts on Pro; challenges, leaderboards, automatic and scheduled posts start on Business.
- Older articles and AI answers: anything that says you need Enterprise for Automations describes the old packaging and is out of date.
For comparison: Everfit sells Autoflow as a paid add-on from $29 a month for 30 clients. Kahunas includes automations from its Growth plan. Trainerize includes auto-messages. Check their pricing pages for current details.
Gyms: Automations and Community Plus add-ons, and the Studio plan
Gyms get Automations and the full Community as add-ons to Core or White Label, in the Studio plan, or in Enterprise.
| Gym plan (US, monthly) | What it is | Automations | Community |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core, $149 | Self-serve, 7-day trial, unlimited members | Add-on, $29 a month | Feed included; Community Plus add-on $19 a month |
| White Label, $299 | Core plus the gym's own member app in the App Store and Google Play, arranged on a call | Add-on, $29 a month | Feed included; Community Plus add-on $19 a month |
| Studio, $339 | White Label plus Automations plus the full Community | Included | Full Community included |
| Enterprise, custom | Everything, set up per contract | Included | Included |
Community Plus adds challenges, leaderboards, automatic posts and scheduled posts on top of the feed. Gym automations allow up to 5,000 automated messages a day. There are no per-member fees, no setup fee and 0% Trainera fee on payments through the gym's own Stripe.
If you run White Label and want both add-ons, Studio costs less than the three together. The Studio plan page has the details, and our post on Core vs White Label explains the base plans.
Community on web, iOS and Android
Trainera Community is a private, members-only feed built into Trainera. Coaches and gyms post updates, photos, videos, polls and announcements, and members react, comment and mention each other on the web and in the Trainera app for iOS and Android.
- Posts with up to 10 photos or one video; polls with up to 10 options, multiple choice and a closing time.
- Staff-only announcements, up to 5 pinned posts, seven reactions, comments with replies and @mentions.
- Weekly leaderboards for workouts, training volume and habits, plus visits for gyms. Members opt in, and every Monday the top three are posted.
- Challenges, ranked or with a target. Gyms can limit a challenge to chosen membership packages.
- Automatic posts from real training data: personal records, workout milestones, streaks, a weekly welcome for new members and Monday winners. Birthdays and anniversaries are posted only for members who opt in.
- Scheduled posts, one-off or weekly, with templates such as Monday goal and Weekend reminder.
- Moderation: a queue and log, AI moderation, blocked words, link and contact blocking, approval of new members' posts for their first 7 days, suspensions with appeals, and automatic hiding of a post after 3 reports.
- Insights over 7 or 30 days, including posts nobody answered.
Nothing is created for you. Each coach or gym switches their community on, pauses it or turns it off. Surnames show as an initial by default. A client coached by a trainer who also trains at a gym sees both communities, with a switcher at the top of the feed. More on the Community page; our guide on building an online community for coaching clients covers the first weeks.
TRAI: chat history now follows you between web and phone
TRAI, the built-in assistant for trainers, clients and gym owners, drafts training and nutrition plans, workouts, questionnaires, shopping lists and weekly insights and asks for confirmation before it changes any data.
The new part: chat history is kept on the server and synced between web and phone. Start a four-week block with TRAI on the desktop, and the thread is on your phone at the gym later. For clients, the AI food photo scan and the barcode scanner sit in the same app. AI drafts stay under the trainer's control, and nothing is assigned to a client automatically.
MCP and WebMCP: Claude and ChatGPT with your Trainera account
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets an AI assistant use tools inside other software. The Trainera MCP server connects Claude, ChatGPT or another MCP-capable assistant to your Trainera account. It is available to trainers from Starter and to gyms, with 100+ tools across coaching and gym work.
For Automations, a connected assistant can list templates, create drafts, preview messages and read the activity log, but it cannot activate an automation.
The Trainera website also registers WebMCP tools in the browser. WebMCP is the browser-side counterpart: the page itself describes actions that an AI agent working in the browser can call, instead of the agent guessing where to click. Gym owners can read how this works day to day in AI assistant for gym owners.
What changed in the mobile app
Trainers get the native automation builder, Community runs with push notifications and live updates, and TRAI conversations continue where you left them on the web. Clients keep the same free app for iOS and Android, in 26 languages including right-to-left Arabic.
Where to start, depending on who you are
- Solo trainer on Starter: you have one active automation. A welcome week or missed check-in template is a sensible first pick: the first weeks and the first skipped check-in are where clients tend to drift.
- Trainer on Pro: three automations plus the Community feed. A welcome week, a missed workout nudge and a plan ending reminder cover the usual gaps. Our notes on client retention for coaches explain why those moments matter.
- Trainer on Business: ten automations, the If/Else builder, and challenges and leaderboards in Community.
- Gym on Core or White Label: add Automations, Community Plus, or compare with Studio.
- Already using Claude or ChatGPT: connect the MCP server and let the assistant draft; you review and switch things on.
