How much does MyFitnessPal Premium cost?
MyFitnessPal Premium costs $9.99 a month or $49.99 a year on MyFitnessPal's own Premium page as we saw it in October 2026, but the US App Store listing also shows Premium items at $19.99 (named "Monthly Premium") and $79.99 (named "Yearly Premium" and "Annual Premium"). MyFitnessPal itself says "Pricing varies by country and by plan length," so check the price inside your own app store before you pay. If you have never had Premium or a trial, you can get a 7-day free trial, and the free plan still covers everyday food logging.
We loaded the web page from outside the US, so a US visitor may see a different web price. Both figures are MyFitnessPal's own, checked October 2026, so we show both.
MyFitnessPal Free, Premium and Premium+ at a glance
MyFitnessPal has three tiers, and the company sums them up in one line: "Free gets you logging. Premium adds the insights. Premium+ plans the meals and builds the grocery list." (MyFitnessPal help center, checked October 2026.)
| Plan | Price | Billing | Free trial | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | None | Not needed | Food and exercise logging, macros, calorie and macro goals by percentage, your own foods and recipes, partner apps |
| Premium | $9.99 a month or $49.99 a year on the web page we saw; $19.99 and $79.99 items also appear on the US App Store | Monthly or yearly | 7 days, if you have never had Premium or a trial | Everything in Free plus Barcode Scan, Meal Scan, Voice Log and the AI Coach, each with the limits listed below |
| Premium+ | Not shown on the official pages we read | Not stated | 7 days ("Start your 7-day Free Trial") | Everything in Premium plus meal plans and a grocery list |
Premium+ is available in six countries: the help center lists the "United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and Australia" (Premium+ article, checked October 2026). We did not find a Premium+ price on an official page, so we leave it out instead of guessing.
Why the price you see may be different
You may see a different price because Premium is sold on the website and through the app stores, and each store shows its own price for your country.
The App Store "In-App Purchases" list is set by the developer, shows at most 10 items and mixes current, older and promotional items. Most item names give no plan length, so the table only groups items whose name says "Monthly", "Yearly" or "Annual". It is not a price list.
| Store (currency) | Items named "Monthly Premium" | Items named "Yearly" or "Annual Premium" | Listing |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States (USD) | $9.99, $19.99 | $49.99, $79.99 | App Store US |
| United Kingdom (GBP) | £7.99, £15.99 | £39.99, £64.99 | App Store UK |
| Australia (AUD) | A$14.99, A$29.99 | A$79.99, A$129.99 | App Store Australia |
| Ireland (EUR) | €9.99, €19.99 | €49.99, €79.99 | App Store Ireland |
| Switzerland (CHF) | CHF 10.00, CHF 20.00, CHF 21.00 | CHF 48.00, CHF 80.00, CHF 86.00 | App Store Switzerland |
App Store listing, checked October 2026; the price you see at checkout can differ.
Every store we checked shows at least two different prices for the same plan length, and nobody outside MyFitnessPal can tell you which one you will be offered. So look at the subscription screen in the app and on the website before you choose, and read the renewal price, not only the first charge.
What MyFitnessPal Free still includes
The free plan still lets you log food and exercise and see your calories and macros; the main thing it lost is barcode scanning.
According to MyFitnessPal's own comparison of the tiers, Free includes:
- Food and exercise logging
- Logging measurements and progress
- Creating your own foods, meals and recipes
- Viewing macros, and setting calorie and macro goals by percentage
- Sharing your diary and linking partner apps
- A printable report
The App Store listing says you can log "from 20.5M+ foods, including restaurant dishes", and the help center explains that the database combines foods added by MyFitnessPal with foods added by users. Since users add entries too, compare an entry with the label in front of you before you save it.
The change most free users notice: "As of October 1, 2022, Barcode Scan is available only with a Premium subscription" (barcode scanner article, checked October 2026). On Free you search or type the food instead.
What Premium adds, and the fine print
Premium adds faster ways to log (barcode, photo, voice) and an AI nutrition assistant, but the AI features need English and a recent phone, and some only work in certain countries.
| Feature | What it does | Plan | Limits, as MyFitnessPal states them |
|---|---|---|---|
| Barcode Scan | Scan a packaged food to log it | Premium | Premium only since 1 October 2022 |
| Meal Scan | "Point your camera at your plate, and MyFitnessPal suggests what it sees so you can log it" | Premium | iOS 18 or Android 13 and above, app version 22.17 or newer, language set to English, not on the website |
| Voice Log | Say what you ate and log it | Premium | iOS and Android, language set to English, app version 24.35.0 or higher, not on the website |
| Coach | A personalized AI nutrition assistant inside the app | Premium and Premium+ | iOS, English, in the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand; "Coach cannot log food for you" |
| Meal plans and grocery list | Plans meals and builds the shopping list | Premium+ | The six countries listed above |
Sources: the Meal Scan article, the voice logging article and the Coach article in MyFitnessPal's help center, all checked October 2026.
The app comes in 20 languages on the App Store, but Meal Scan, Voice Log and Coach need it set to English. If you use MyFitnessPal in another language, test these features during the trial.
How good is Meal Scan?
MyFitnessPal is careful here: "Meal Scan gives you a starting point, not a final answer, so you always have the last word on what goes in your diary." It also suggests scanning one dish at a time when a meal has several items.
Independent research points the same way. A 2024 study in Nutrients (Li et al., PubMed) found MyFitnessPal had the highest food recognition accuracy, 97%, of the seven AI photo apps it tested, yet concluded that "automatic energy estimations from AI-enabled food image recognition were inaccurate." The 97% is about naming the food, not about calories. In practice: the scan is good at saying "that is pasta", less good at knowing how much pasta and oil is on the plate. Check the portion before you save. Our guide on how accurate AI photo calorie counters are goes deeper.
Is MyFitnessPal Premium worth it? It depends on how you log
Premium is worth it if barcode, photo or voice logging will save you time every day; if you mostly search and type, Free is enough.
| If you... | Our take |
|---|---|
| Log mostly home-cooked meals by searching | Stay on Free. Premium mainly saves taps you are not making. |
| Eat a lot of packaged food | Barcode Scan is the strongest reason to pay. If it is the only feature you want, note that Cronometer includes a barcode scanner in its free version. |
| Want photo or voice logging | Premium can make sense, as long as your phone language is English and your device meets the version rules above. |
| Use the app in another language, or live outside the six Coach countries | Some AI features may not reach you. Use the trial to check what you actually get. |
| Want meal plans and a shopping list | That is Premium+, available in six countries. Check the price in the app, because we found none published. |
| Also want your workouts planned | The Premium features we read about are all about food. An app that builds training plans too may suit you better. |
Use the 7-day trial as a real test: log a normal week and notice how often you reach for a Premium feature. If the honest answer is once or twice, Free is the better deal.
If you track food because of a medical condition, a history of disordered eating or GLP-1 medication, talk to your doctor about how closely to track. A logging app is a tool, not medical advice.
How to pay less for MyFitnessPal Premium
The cheapest route is a full trial first, then the yearly plan from wherever it is priced lowest for you.
- Check the Premium price in the app and on myfitnesspal.com/premium, since "pricing varies by country and by plan length."
- Compare yearly with monthly. The web page we saw described the yearly plan as "58% savings over the Monthly Plan".
- Start the 7-day trial only when you are ready to log every day. It is offered if you have not had Premium or a trial before.
- Set a reminder for the day before the trial ends and decide on purpose.
- Before paying for the AI features, confirm that Meal Scan, Voice Log or Coach actually show up on your phone with your language and country settings.
If Premium is not for you: cheaper or different options
If Premium does not fit your budget, language or goals, a few apps cover similar ground at different prices; our MyFitnessPal alternatives guide compares them in depth.
| App | US price (official page, checked October 2026) | Free tier | Photo logging |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cronometer | Gold $10.99 a month or $59.99 a year (cronometer.com/gold) | Yes, with a barcode scanner | Gold only |
| Lose It! | Premium $79.99 a year (Lose It! help center) | Yes | Snap It, Premium, English only |
| MacroFactor | $11.99 a month, $47.99 per half year or $71.99 a year (macrofactor.com) | No, 7-day trial | Included in the subscription |
| Trainera | Pro $5.99 or Premium $6.99 a month (US) | Yes, free forever with no card | AI food photo scan on Premium, up to 20 a day |

Where Trainera fits
Trainera is a different kind of app: training and nutrition plans in one place, so it fits you if you want your workouts planned as well as your food tracked.
The free plan is free forever with no card: workout logging, the diet tracker with calories and macros, 50 exercises, basic analytics, and 1 AI training plan and 1 AI nutrition plan a month. Pro ($5.99 a month in the US) adds unlimited exercises, full analytics, 5 AI training and 5 AI nutrition plans a month, a weekly AI shopping list, TRAI (the in-app AI assistant) with 40 requests a month, and offline downloads. Premium ($6.99 a month in the US) adds AI food photo scanning (up to 20 a day), AI Nutrition Chat, 10 AI training plans, 10 AI nutrition plans and 10 AI workouts a month, and TRAI with 90 requests a month. Prices differ by country on trainera.fit/pricing.
Be clear about what the photo scan is. An AI model names the foods on your plate and estimates the grams, calories and macros of each item, and you can correct every item before you log it. It is an estimate, not a weighed measurement. Food search pulls from Open Food Facts and USDA FoodData Central, and you can type a barcode number on every plan. Scanning a barcode with the camera is part of the Premium food scanner.
The honest verdict: if you only want calorie logging with a very large food list, MyFitnessPal may suit you better. If you want training and eating planned together, our Trainera vs MyFitnessPal comparison walks through the differences, and our list of the best free calorie counter apps helps if you want to pay nothing at all.
