Future App Cost 2026: Plans, Refund and Is It Worth It
Future costs $199 a month, or $149 a month on the 12-month plan, with a $50 first month, no free trial and US-only access. Here is what you get, what a year costs and when an AI app plus an optional coach makes more sense.

How much does Future cost?
Future costs $199 a month on the month-to-month plan, according to its own membership plans and pricing page (checked October 2026). Paying ahead lowers the rate: $537 for 3 months, $1,014 for 6 months or $1,788 for 12 months, which works out to $149 a month. The homepage also advertises a $50 first month, there is no free tier, and Future is only available in the United States.
That money buys something most fitness apps do not offer: a dedicated human coach who writes your program and checks in on you. Whether it is worth it depends on how much you need that person, and on whether an AI app with an optional coach would get you most of the way for far less.
Future plans and prices at a glance
Every Future plan includes the same one-on-one coaching; the only difference is how long you commit and what you pay per month.
| Plan | Total price | Works out to | What you commit to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly | $199 a month | $199 a month | Month to month |
| 3 months | $537 | $179 a month | 3 months paid up front |
| 6 months | $1,014 | $169 a month | 6 months paid up front |
| 12 months | $1,788 | $149 a month | 12 months paid up front |
| Intro offer (homepage) | $50 first month | then $199 a month | Month to month |
Plan prices come from Future's help center and the intro offer from the future.co homepage, both checked October 2026. The US App Store listing says the same in one line: "Future Pro membership is $199/month." It shows no in-app purchase list, so billing details live on future.co and in the help center. The pages we checked do not say whether the $50 first month can be combined with the 3, 6 or 12 month plans, so ask Future before you pay.
Is there a free trial?
No. Future has no free trial and no free plan. It offers a refund instead: the homepage says "Cancel within 30 days for a full refund," and the refund and cancellation article calls it a "Risk-Free First Month". In practice you pay first and decide within 30 days.
What you get for $199 a month
You get a human coach rather than an algorithm: Future says it "pairs you with a dedicated, expert coach," and that coach builds the program and follows up with you.
- A coach-written program. In Future's words, "Our coaches create your program."
- Check-ins and accountability. "Your coach checks in, monitors your progress, and holds you accountable."
- Watch support. The iPhone app needs iOS 18 or later and runs on Apple Watch (watchOS 10 or later). Future's smartwatch article says heart-rate sharing works with Apple Watch Series 4 and newer, and on Android with any watch running Wear OS 3.0 or above. There is also an Android app on Google Play.
- Nutrition guidance, not meal plans. The homepage now advertises health coaching that covers nutrition and sleep. The nutrition help article says coaches give "Healthy eating guidance" but do not create custom meal plans or prescribe specific calorie or macronutrient targets.
What you do not get is AI. The word does not appear on Future's homepage or in its App Store description. What you pay for is the coach.
So if you want calorie targets, a macro split or a food log in the same place as your training, you will need a second app next to Future. The app is in English only, per its App Store listing.
Can you use Future outside the US?
No: Future's help center says "Future Pro is currently only available in the United States," and you need a US payment method, a US phone number and a US App Store account.
We checked the App Store listing in six storefronts in October 2026. Only the US one loads.
| App Store storefront | What it showed (checked October 2026) |
|---|---|
| United States | Listing loads; description states the $199 monthly price; no in-app purchase list |
| United Kingdom | Not available (the listing returns a 404 error) |
| Ireland | Not available |
| Australia | Not available |
| Germany | Not available |
| Switzerland | Not available |
The source is Future's own "Is Future Pro available internationally?" article. If you live outside the US, Future is not an option today, whatever your budget, and the questions below are about what to use instead.
What a year of Future really costs
A year of Future costs between $1,788 and $2,388, depending on how you pay.
The figures below are simple sums of Future's published prices. They assume each renewal costs the same, which Future's pages do not promise.
| How you pay | Cost for 12 months | How it adds up |
|---|---|---|
| One 12-month plan | $1,788 | One payment, lowest monthly rate |
| Two 6-month plans | $2,028 | 2 x $1,014 |
| Four 3-month plans | $2,148 | 4 x $537 |
| Monthly with the $50 intro month | $2,239 | $50 + 11 x $199, if the offer applies to you |
| Monthly, no intro offer | $2,388 | 12 x $199 |
Paying for the year up front saves $600 against paying month to month, for the same coaching. The catch is commitment. The 12-month plan only saves money if you are still training with your coach in month twelve.
If you are not sure you will be, the monthly plan with its refundable first month is the lower-risk way to find out.
Is Future worth it?
Future is worth it if a person checking on you is what keeps you training, you live in the US, and $149 to $199 a month fits your budget without strain.
Future is a good fit if
- You have started and dropped self-guided programs before, and accountability is the missing piece.
- You want someone else to decide what you do in every session, and to adjust it when life gets in the way.
- You train with an Apple Watch or a Wear OS watch and want to share heart-rate data from it.
- You would rather be matched with a coach than search for one yourself.
It is probably not worth it if
- You already train consistently and mainly need a plan, a log and progress charts.
- You want calorie or macro targets: Future coaches do not set them.
- You live outside the US.
- $199 a month would stretch your budget. A coach you can only afford for two months helps less than a cheaper setup you keep for a year.
If you have a health condition, are pregnant or take GLP-1 medication, talk to your doctor before you start any new program, whether a coach or an app writes it.
Human coach or AI app with an optional coach?
For most people who train on their own, the choice is not "Future or nothing": an AI app covers programming and tracking for a fraction of the price, and you can add a human coach only when you need one.
| Future | AI app on its own | AI app plus a coach you choose | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who writes the plan | Your Future coach | The app, from your goals, equipment and schedule | Your coach, inside the app |
| Check-ins from a person | Yes | No; you get progress charts and an in-app assistant | Yes, from the coach you picked |
| Nutrition | Guidance; no meal plans or macro targets | Depends on the app | Depends on the coach and the app |
| Price | $149 to $199 a month | Free to $15.99 a month for the apps in this post | The coach's own price |
| Where it works | US only | Depends on the app | Depends on the coach |
What AI can and cannot do in place of a person is covered in can AI replace a personal trainer. What human online coaching usually costs outside Future is in how much an online personal trainer costs. Read both before you commit to a year of anything.
Where Trainera fits
Trainera is an AI fitness coach app with a trainer marketplace, so it covers the AI-first route and the "add a coach later" route in one app; it does not copy Future's model of a coach assigned to you on day one.
- Free, forever, no card: workout logging, the diet tracker with calories and macros, 50 exercises, basic analytics, 1 AI training plan and 1 AI nutrition plan a month.
- Pro, $5.99 a month: unlimited exercises, full analytics, 5 AI training and 5 AI nutrition plans a month, a weekly AI shopping list, TRAI (the in-app AI assistant) with 40 requests a month, and offline downloads in the mobile app.
- Premium, $6.99 a month: AI food photo scanning (up to 20 scans a day), AI Nutrition Chat, 10 AI training plans, 10 AI nutrition plans and 10 AI workouts a month, and TRAI with 90 requests a month.
Those are US prices, billed monthly; prices differ by country on trainera.fit/pricing. Twelve months of Premium at $6.99 a month cost less than half of one month of Future at $199.
Two honest limits. The food photo scan is an AI estimate of the foods, grams, calories and macros on your plate, which you check and correct before you log it; it does not replace weighing food. And TRAI answers questions about training, nutrition, recovery and sleep when you ask, but it is not medical advice and it is not a coach who follows up with you.
If you want a person later, the trainer marketplace lists coaches who set their own prices and work with you in the same app, and while a trainer coaches you, you use Trainera for free. A listing on its own is not proof of a qualification, so ask to see credentials before you pay anyone.
Trainera runs on the web, iOS and Android in 26 languages, syncs with Apple Health, Health Connect, Fitbit and Polar, and the iPhone app includes an Apple Watch app. If you are in the US, can afford it and want a coach matched to you from the start, Future is the more direct product. If you want plans and tracking now and a coach only if you need one, Trainera is built for that.
Cheaper options if Future is too much
Most alternatives cost a fraction of Future because they replace the one-on-one coach with software or a coach-written group program.
- Fitbod generates strength workouts with AI and adapts them as you log. Its FAQ lists $15.99 a month or $95.99 a year on the website, with a 7-day free trial and no nutrition tracking (checked October 2026). The full head-to-head is in Fitbod vs Future.
- Ladder gives you coach-built team programs, not one-on-one coaching: $29.99 a month or $179.99 a year on its pricing page, with 7 days free (checked October 2026). It is on iPhone; we found no Android app.
- Trainera combines AI training and nutrition plans with an optional human coach from the marketplace, from free.

Questions to answer before you pay $199 a month
Run through these before you sign up; each one can save you a month of fees.
- Do you live in the US, with a US payment method and phone number? If not, Future is off the table.
- What made you quit last time: not knowing what to do, or not doing it? A good program fixes the first. A coach is for the second.
- Can you afford twelve months, not just one? Count the year: $1,788 to $2,388.
- Do you need calorie or macro targets? Future coaches will not set them, so budget for a nutrition app or pick one app that does both.
- Will you actually use the 30-day refund window? Put a reminder in your calendar for day 25.
- Would an AI app now and a coach later get you most of the way? Try a free plan for a month and see where you stall.
