What are the best alternatives to the Ladder app?
The best Ladder alternative depends on why you are leaving: Fitbod or Alpha Progression if you want an adaptive strength plan on Android or iPhone for less than Ladder Pro, JuggernautAI if you are a powerlifter, Caliber if you want a free tier or a 1-on-1 coach, Centr if you want workouts and meal plans in one subscription, and Trainera if you want AI training and nutrition plans with a free plan and paid plans from $5.99 a month in the US. Ladder Pro costs $29.99 a month or $179.99 a year on its own pricing page, and we found no Ladder app on Google Play.
Below: what Ladder actually offers, who tends to look elsewhere, six alternatives with real prices, and a side-by-side table. All competitor facts come from the vendors' own pages and App Store listings, checked October 2026.
What Ladder is and what it costs
Ladder is an iPhone strength app built around coach-led team programs, with one public Pro price: $29.99 a month or $179.99 a year.
According to the Ladder pricing page (checked October 2026), the Pro Plan is "$29.99 / month" on monthly billing, or "$14.99 / month ($179.99 for the year)" on the annual plan. There is a 7-day free trial, and Ladder says no payment info is collected until after the trial ends. There is no free plan, though the website has a free "Workout Of The Day" page.
What you get, in Ladder's words: "A workout plan for every day, created by an expert coach and new each week", "In-ear coaching and video demos" and "Coach tips and motivation in Team Chat". You join a coach's team program. It is not 1-on-1 coaching, and Ladder does not claim to use AI anywhere on its homepage, pricing page or App Store description.
The Ladder App Store listing (US, checked October 2026) also shows higher-priced items called PRO+, ELITE and ELITE+, for example ELITE+ Annual at $479.99. None of the official pages we checked say what those tiers include, so treat them as unknown until you see them in the app.
| Country | PRO (App Store) | PRO Annual (App Store) |
|---|---|---|
| United States | $29.99 | $179.99 |
| United Kingdom | £14.99 | £89.99 |
| Australia | A$24.99 | A$149.99 |
| Ireland | €15.99 | €94.99 |
| Germany | 15,99 € | 94,99 € |
| Switzerland | CHF 14.95 | CHF 89.95 |

Why people look for apps like Ladder
The usual reasons to look elsewhere are practical: your phone, your budget, food, the kind of plan you want, or language.
- You use Android. Ladder's App Store listing covers iPhone, Mac, Apple Vision and Apple Watch. We searched Google Play in October 2026 and found no Ladder app. We found no official statement from Ladder either way, so this may change, but today an Android user needs a different app.
- The US price. $29.99 a month is more than most apps on this list charge. Several alternatives below cost less than half that per month.
- You also want nutrition. Neither Ladder's pricing page nor its App Store description mentions nutrition tracking or meal plans.
- You want a plan built around you. Ladder's programs are written by coaches for a team. Some people prefer an app that adjusts weights, reps or the whole plan to their own logs. Others like the team format, which is a fair reason to stay.
- Language. The App Store lists English as Ladder's only language.
If none of these apply and you enjoy your coach's program, the honest advice is to keep Ladder. Switching apps costs you training history and habits, and that only pays off when the new app fixes a real problem.
Six Ladder alternatives and who each one fits
Each option below solves a different Ladder pain point; prices are the vendor's own figures in US dollars unless stated otherwise.
Fitbod: adaptive strength workouts on iPhone and Android
Fitbod fits lifters who want an app that writes each gym session for them and adapts it, on either platform. Its FAQ (checked October 2026) gives the website prices as $15.99 a month or $95.99 a year, with a 7-day free trial. The US App Store listing also shows a $12.99 monthly and a $79.99 yearly item, so the price inside the app can differ from the website. Fitbod describes "AI-Generated Workouts" that learn from your edits, runs on iOS and Android with Apple Watch and Wear OS companion apps, and is available in English, Spanish and Portuguese. It has no nutrition tracking. More detail in our Fitbod pricing breakdown and the Fitbod alternatives roundup.
Alpha Progression: the budget pick with a real free tier
Alpha Progression fits budget-minded lifters who want set-by-set weight and rep suggestions. The Alpha Progression website (checked October 2026) says: "Regular US pricing is $12.99 per month or $79.99 per year." The yearly plan has a 14-day free trial; the monthly plan has none. The free version includes unlimited workout logging, your own plans and all 795 exercise videos, with no ads and no account required. The paid plan builds your plan and recommends weight and reps for every set (the vendor does not call this AI). It runs on iPhone and Android, comes in 13 languages, and has no nutrition features.
JuggernautAI: for powerlifters and powerbuilders
JuggernautAI fits one reader very well: someone training the squat, bench and deadlift who wants a program that adjusts session by session. The JuggernautAI website (checked October 2026) lists $34.99 a month or $349.99 a year, with a 2-week free trial. The yearly plan adds extras such as a 30-minute consultation with the head coach. It focuses on powerlifting and powerbuilding only, runs on iPhone, iPad and Android, and has no nutrition features. If you liked Ladder's coach-written strength work and want something more specific to meet prep, this is the closest match, but it costs more than Ladder Pro.
Caliber: free logging, paid plan, optional 1-on-1 coach
Caliber fits people who want to start free and maybe add a human coach later. Its App Store listing describes a free version where you can "create and track unlimited workouts, access 800+ exercises". The Caliber account guide (a help page dated June 2024, checked October 2026) lists Caliber Plus at $12 a month or $72 a year, and 1-on-1 Premium coaching that "starts at $200/month". The App Store listing says Plus adds "personalized nutrition targets". Caliber does not claim AI-built workouts. It runs on iPhone and Android, in English.
Centr: workouts and meal plans in one subscription
Centr fits people who want trainer-led video workouts and meal plans together. Centr's help center says every plan (monthly, quarterly or annual) gives full access with "no premium tiers or locked content", and new members get a 7-day free trial; a card is required. Centr's own help pages do not show prices, and its join page did not load prices for us. The Centr App Store listing (US, checked October 2026) shows 1-month items at $29.99 and $19.99 and a 12-month item at $119.99; check the price in the app before you subscribe. Centr runs on iPhone, iPad, Android and Apple Watch, and its help center is not consistent about training in a web browser: the newest help article says training on centr.com is being retired, so plan on using the app. See Centr alternatives if you want to compare further.
Trainera: AI training and nutrition plans, free plan included
Trainera fits people who want both a training plan and a nutrition plan in one app, on Android or iPhone, without a big monthly bill. Details are in the next section.

Where Trainera fits as a Ladder alternative
Trainera is a good fit if you want a plan generated around your goals plus nutrition, on any platform; it is not a copy of Ladder's team format.
The app runs on the web, iOS and Android, in 26 languages, with more than 1,800 exercises and exercise videos. The Free plan is free forever with no card: workout logging, the diet tracker, 50 exercises, basic analytics, and 1 AI training plan and 1 AI nutrition plan a month.
- Pro, $5.99 a month: unlimited exercises, full analytics, 5 AI training and 5 AI nutrition plans a month, a weekly AI shopping list, TRAI (the in-app AI assistant) with 40 requests a month, and offline downloads in the mobile app.
- Premium, $6.99 a month: adds AI food photo scanning (up to 20 a day; the result is an estimate you can correct before logging), AI Nutrition Chat, 10 AI training plans, 10 AI nutrition plans and 10 AI workouts a month, and TRAI with 90 requests a month.
Those are US prices; prices differ by country on trainera.fit/pricing. Plans are monthly, with no yearly option. Trainera syncs with Apple Health, Health Connect, Fitbit and Polar.
Where Ladder may suit you better: if the thing you value is one coach's weekly program shared with a team, in-ear coaching during the session and a team chat, that is Ladder's core idea and not how Trainera works. In Trainera the AI builds your plans around your goals, and on Pro and Premium you can ask TRAI to build or change them in chat. If you later want a human, a personal trainer can coach you inside Trainera, and a client coached by a trainer uses the app for free.

How to pick the right Ladder alternative for you
Start from the one problem Ladder does not solve for you, then pick the app that fixes exactly that.
- On Android? Fitbod, Alpha Progression, JuggernautAI, Caliber, Centr and Trainera all have Android apps.
- Need nutrition too? Centr (meal plans), Caliber Plus (nutrition targets) or Trainera (AI nutrition plans and a diet tracker). Fitbod, Alpha Progression and JuggernautAI are training only.
- Tight budget? Try the free versions of Alpha Progression, Caliber or Trainera for two weeks before you pay anything.
- Competing in powerlifting? JuggernautAI is the specialist, at a higher price.
- Want a real person? Caliber Premium offers 1-on-1 coaching; in Trainera you can work with a personal trainer.
A common mistake when switching: cancelling Ladder before you write down your recent working weights. Note your current numbers on the main lifts first, so the new app does not start you too light or too heavy. For more strength-focused picks, our best strength training app guide and the broader best workout app ranking cover apps beyond this list.
If you have a medical condition, an injury or are pregnant, talk to your doctor before starting a new training program, whichever app you choose.
Your shortlist in one paragraph
Keep Ladder if you love its coach-led team programs and use an iPhone. Pick Fitbod for adaptive gym sessions, Alpha Progression for set-by-set suggestions with a solid free tier, JuggernautAI for powerlifting, Caliber for a free start and an optional 1-on-1 coach, Centr for workouts plus meal plans, and Trainera if you want AI training and nutrition plans together with a free plan and paid plans at $5.99 or $6.99 a month in the US.
