Which apps let a coach build both training plans and meal plans for clients in one place?

Several coaching apps include nutrition planning next to training in the base plan: Kahunas ("Unlimited Nutrition Plans" on every plan), PT Distinction (an AI meal planner, with features "included in our packages"), FitBudd (a built-in nutrition library and meals and macros tracker), My PT Hub (nutrition coaching) and Trainera (meal plans, 1,100+ recipes and a food log). ABC Trainerize and Everfit sell meal planning as a paid add-on, and TrueCoach connects to MyFitnessPal for nutrition instead. All vendor details below were checked on the vendors' own pages in October 2026.

The right pick depends on how deep your nutrition coaching goes and what it costs you at your client count, so this page shows both.

Three ways coaching apps handle nutrition

Nutrition shows up in coaching software as a native feature, as a paid add-on, or through a separate tracker your client already uses.

  • Native: you write the meal plan in the same app as the training plan, and the client logs food in the same app. One login, one place for check-ins.
  • Paid add-on: the training app has basic food or macro tracking, and full meal plans or recipe books cost extra each month.
  • Integration: the client logs food in a separate app such as MyFitnessPal, and the coaching app pulls the numbers in. You coach macros, but you do not build meal plans inside the tool.

None of these is wrong. A macro-focused coach whose clients already log in MyFitnessPal may be happy with an integration. A coach who sends full weekly meal plans with recipes needs native meal planning or the add-on.

What training plus nutrition costs at 10, 30 and 75 clients

Once you add the nutrition add-on where one is needed, flat-priced apps with native nutrition often come out cheaper than per-tier apps.

Figures are monthly billing for the cheapest plan that covers the client count, from each vendor's pricing page, checked October 2026. Taxes and payment fees are not included.

What your client should see in one app

The test of "one place" is the client's phone: today's workout, today's meals and the log for both should sit in the same app.

Use your free trial to check these from the client side, not only from your coach dashboard.

What to checkWhy it mattersHow to test it

Native nutrition or MyFitnessPal integration?

Integration fits macro coaching with clients who already log food elsewhere; native fits coaches who write meal plans.

With an integration, the client keeps their own food database and habits, and you see numbers without changing their routine. The trade-off is two apps for the client and no meal plan written by you inside the coaching tool. With native nutrition, the plan, the recipes, the log and your feedback sit in one place, but clients who love their old tracker have to switch. We compare the two approaches for consumers in Trainera vs MyFitnessPal, and the dedicated nutrition tools in best nutrition coaching software.

Messages you can send when you move a client from a separate tracker to your coaching app:

SituationWhat to send
Switching trackers"From Monday your meals and workouts are both in the app. Log breakfast there first; I will check your totals on Thursday."
First meal plan"Your plan has three breakfast options. Pick any, and tell me which one you skip so I can replace it."
Missed logging"No logs since Tuesday. No problem, just log today's dinner so we have a starting point again."

Where meal plans stop and a dietitian starts

Meal plans for healthy clients are common in coaching apps, but clients with a medical condition belong with a registered dietitian or their doctor.

What a personal trainer may advise on nutrition depends on your certification and on local rules, so check both before you send prescriptive plans. For clients with diabetes, kidney disease, an eating disorder history, pregnancy or food allergies, refer out: the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has a directory to find a nutrition expert by location and specialty. This page is not medical or dietary advice.

Where Trainera fits

Trainera fits coaches who want training plans, meal plans and the client's food log in one app at a flat price per plan, not per client.

  • Plans: training and nutrition plans in one platform, with 1,800+ exercises with video and 1,100+ recipes.
  • Food log: food search pulls from Open Food Facts and the USDA FoodData Central database, and clients can type a barcode number.
  • AI food photo scanning: up to 20 scans a day for clients of a trainer on Pro, Business or Enterprise, or clients on Client Premium. Scanning a barcode with the camera sits in the same AI scanner.
  • Habits and streaks: clients keep workout and nutrition streaks; check-ins and habits run next to both plans.
  • Moving in: import training and nutrition plans yourself from JSON, CSV or Excel, or send Trainera your export and the team moves your clients and plans across for free.
  • Clients: a free client app for iOS and Android in 26 languages, plus TRAI, Trainera's AI assistant.

Trainer plans in US dollars: Free $0 for up to 3 clients, Starter $19.99 for 10, Pro $49.99 for 30, Business $99 for 75, Enterprise on request. Prices differ by country, so check trainera.fit/pricing for yours. If you run everything alone, our guide to the best software for a solo personal trainer covers the rest of the setup.

Be honest about the trade-off. If you want the largest verified food database with micronutrients, Kahunas publishes the most detail on that. If you want unlimited clients at one fixed price and do not mind euro billing, My PT Hub Premium is flat. If you are a dietitian who needs charting and practice records, Practice Better is built for that work.

Your four-step shortlist for this week

Turn this comparison into a decision with one real client and one real week.

  1. Decide whether you write meal plans or coach macros only. That alone tells you native, add-on or integration.
  2. Price the app at today's client count and at the count you expect in a year, with the nutrition add-on included.
  3. Build one week of training and one day of meals for a real client in two shortlisted apps.
  4. Open both as the client on your phone, log one meal, and keep the app where that took less effort.

See how training plans, meal plans and the food log work together on the Trainera platform page.

How much is the Trainerize nutrition add-on?

Per Trainerize's pricing page, checked October 2026, Advanced Nutrition Coaching costs $20 a month on Grow, Pro 5 and Pro 15, and $45 a month on Pro 30 to Pro 200. It is included on Studio and Enterprise.
